Here's why Oppo's Watch X only comes in one size
They just really wanted to make one good watch.
The new Oppo Watch X is a pretty good fitness watch, but unfortunately, it is too big for some women (and well probably some men, too). My wife, who really liked the look of the Watch X, tried putting it on, and the Watch X looked like one of those ludicrously large toddler toys on her wrist. To be fair, it looks pretty okay on mine, but I don’t really have petite wrists.
And unlike the previous Watch, which came in 46mm and 41mm flavours, there’s just one size for the Watch X: 47mm. That’s because Oppo was really focused on making a good watch, and they have, despite missing a few features such as fall detection or period tracking. Then again, if the Watch X is too large for most women, it’s probably a safe decision to leave the latter out.
“We wanted to focus on building one really good product at this time, but maybe we will make a different decision for the next generation,” said Lubia Zhu, Oppo’s Product Manager for the Oppo Watch series.
Zhu added that while they have included fall detection for Oppo’s Chinese products, the global availability of the Oppo Watch X meant that they wanted more data first to ensure that its fall detection algorithm works correctly.
Otherwise, the Oppo Watch X is a pretty decent fitness smartwatch, with ground contact timing, badminton tracking, and dual-frequency GPS for accurate positioning. We also tested a retro gaming handheld, a smartwatch for kids, and a value-for-money robot vacuum.
You don’t need to pay through the nose for a good, feature-packed robot vacuum. The TP-Link RV20 Mop Plus is a great example — it has lidar-powered mapping, a water tank, and mopping functionality. Its max suction power (2,700Pa) is the highest, but it’s also a lot quieter. And it costs only S$319, including a 4L auto-empty dock, and the mop.
For less than S$80, you can relive your childhood memories of playing classic games with a retro gaming handheld like the Anbernic RG35XX. Designed to look like the original Nintendo Game Boy, the RG35XX is able to emulate up to Sony PlayStation (PS1) games. Games are preloaded on the included microSD card, and its 2,600mAh battery gives you around 4 hours of playtime.
The latest myFirst Fone R2 (S$299) smartwatch — designed for kids — is a significant upgrade over the previous version. Almost every aspect of this wearable, from battery life to the new AMOLED display, have been improved. The updated hardware adds new functions, and makes for a smoother, more responsive experience.
