It’s no secret that Google has been working on a foldable smartphone. According to recent leaks, the Google Pixel Fold could be announced on May 10 at Google’s annual I/O developer conference, go on sale in June, and cost over US$1,700. The 5.8-inch Pixel Fold will unfurl to a 7.6-inch inner display. It will be water resistant, and have the “most durable hinge on a foldable”. There’s supposedly even a leaked video of the Pixel Fold — holy bezels, Batman!
Aside from the hardware, which looks similar to Samsung’s Galaxy Z Fold 4, what should interest tech watchers is the software. How would Google improve the user experience, make it more seamless, more user-friendly, more productive? Smartphone brands that have launched their own foldables, such as Huawei, Oppo, and Xiaomi, will surely be keeping tabs, too.
Foldable phones could also end up being the sole bright spot for the market. IDC says shipments of foldables will reach over 21 million this year, up by 50% over last year. Overall smartphone shipments, though, are expected to decline this year. Besides the Pixel Fold, the Pixel 7a, the sequel to the budget Pixel 6a, will reportedly be announced at I/O. Recent leaks indicate that it will have Face Unlock, like the Pixel 7 Pro and Pixel 7.

If you don’t want to spend big bucks on a flagship phone, the Samsung Galaxy A54 5G makes a solid, cheaper alternative. Sure, the camera and processor are not as good as top models, but the rest of the phone comes close enough, especially for the average consumer.
The Lenovo Legion Pro 7i is an excellent computer for both work and play. It has the computing power to run the latest games, and a versatile design that can blend into the office, or show off its gaming credentials with flashy LEDs. It’s a tad expensive, though.
Horizon Forbidden West gets a nice side-chapter with the Burning Shores DLC. Our heroine Aloy travels to Los Angeles (what’s left of it) to confront a new antagonist. She meets a new character, and encounters new monsters, gears, and skills. Expect at least six hours of fun if you skip the optional stuff.
