Threads has set another record. The Twitter rival from Meta became the fastest-growing app — beating ChatGPT — with over 100 million sign-ups in five days. It’s even more impressive given that Threads isn’t available in the EU yet because of data privacy reasons.
Threads still lacks many of the features, such as hashtags, keyword search, and private messaging, that made Twitter so useful for breaking news and events. Its algorithmic feed also doesn’t offer users the same experience or control as Twitter’s chronological option. But these missing features will likely come with time. Threads will also face the same struggle with misinformation that’s afflicting social media platforms.
But what you get with Threads is stability, something that Twitter has been lacking since Elon Musk’s takeover. Rapid changes, sometimes followed by U-turns — seemingly at the whim of a capricious billionaire — aren’t what users, especially businesses, signed up for. However, it remains to be seen how users react as Threads evolve (advertising will inevitably be introduced) in the future.
Our latest reviews include a professional-grade monitor, a smart home device to “smartify” your aircon, and a game that captures the spirit of an all-time classic.
Content creators such as graphics designers and photo editors will be pleased that the Asus ProArt Display PA279CRV offers accurate colours and a full colour gamut coverage at an affordable price. This professional monitor also has plenty of connectivity options, as well as OSD controls that are conveniently located at the front bezel.
Remotely control your aircon using your voice or smartphone with the Sensibo Air Pro. This controller works with any aircon that has a remote control. It also adds smart features, such as geofencing, and automatic temperature adjustment based on your preferences. But some features require a subscription, though the Sensibo is still a worthwhile upgrade without it.
This long-awaited sequel keeps the old-school sprite-like graphics, but updates it with a 3D engine. The gameplay resembles classic X-COM games. This can be jarring for newbies, though the tutorial helps. So far, this early-access game looks fun, especially if you have played the older games.
